-Achievements and Awards
We are very proud to annonce: From Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie's website November 14, 2005
U.S. FOREST SERVICE EXTRAORDINARY EFFORT AWARD Lana Gits contributed her time and talent to designing and painting four life-size banners of tallgrass prairie plants as part of Midewin's exhibit at the "Smithsonian Folklife Festival" on the National Mall in Washington, DC, during the Forest Service's Centennial Year. The banners drew thousands of visitors to the Midewin exhibit and provided the perfect interpretation of what makes the tallgrass prairie so unique. These works of art will now be displayed in the Midewin Welcome Center and will travel with Midewin exhibits to other locales to help the public appreciate tallgrass prairies and support their restoration.
